- A 6 by 24 inch rectangle. It is long enough to cut across quilting cotton folded in half and narrow enough to handle, and it is the ruler most patterns assume you own. Squares and smaller rulers come later, for trimming blocks.
- Can I use a regular ruler with a rotary cutter?
- No. A rotary blade needs a thick acrylic edge to run against; a thin plastic or wooden ruler lets the blade ride up and over it, towards the hand holding the ruler. Quilting rulers are made thick for exactly that reason.
- How do I stop my quilting ruler slipping?
