Brother PE900 Embroidery Machine, 5x7

Not sure this is the one? The Machine Finder narrows it to three.
How to choose a beginner embroidery machine
- Hoop size — Hoop size is the single spec that decides what you can stitch. A 4x4 inch hoop covers monograms, patches, left-chest logos and most children's clothes; 5x7 is where larger motifs and multi-line lettering become possible. Decide what you want to make before you decide what to spend.
- Combination or embroidery-only — Some machines both sew and embroider; others only embroider. A combination machine is usually cheaper than buying a sewing machine and an embroidery machine separately and is the sensible answer if you do not already own a machine you like. Embroidery-only makes sense when you do.
- How designs get onto the machine — Designs reach the machine by USB stick, by cable, or over wireless through the manufacturer's own app. Check which before you buy, because it decides how easily you can use design files bought from anyone other than the manufacturer.

Our read
Written from the manufacturer's listing, the published specs and public owner feedback. We research and analyse — we don't lab-test, and we don't claim to have stitched with this ourselves. Reviewed by the SewingPath team · Hilly Shore Labs · updated October 9, 2026.
A larger 5 by 7 inch embroidery field — 193 built-in designs, 13 fonts, a 3.7 inch LCD and wireless transfer, on a machine that only embroiders.
You also need a sewing machine — it only embroiders. The Brother SE700 sews and embroiders, in a smaller 4 by 4 inch field.

Brother PE900 or Brother PE545?
Both are embroidery-only machines with a 3.7 inch LCD, wireless LAN and a USB port. The PE900's field is 5 by 7 inches against the PE545's 4 by 4, it has 193 built-in designs and 13 fonts against 135 and 10, and Brother rates it faster, at up to 650 stitches per minute against 400. The PE545 costs far less; buy the PE900 when your designs need the larger hoop.

Questions buyers ask
- Can the Brother PE900 sew regular seams?
- No. Brother describes it as an embroidery-only machine. You would still need a sewing machine to hem a tote or close a pillow.
- What is the biggest design the Brother PE900 can stitch?
- 5 by 7 inches. Brother lists that as the maximum embroidery area, and the included large frame is that size.
- How do designs get onto the Brother PE900?
- Brother lists three ways: wireless LAN from a computer with its free Design Database Transfer software, the built-in USB port, and the Artspira mobile app.
